A MMO is a massively multiplayer online game where a large numbers of players can play simultaneously. They can be played on any platform, like personal computers, game consoles connected to internet and mobile devices and smartphones based on operating systems such as Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
The global market for MMOs grows at a healthy pace and the number of MMO titles rises each year. In 2012 the value of this market reached $13bn, attracting 400 million players, of which 180 million were payers. This year it’s expected to reach $14.9bn and for the future will achieve 14% year-on-year growth, according to Newzoo’s 2013 Global Games Market Report.

MMOs have only recently begun to break into the mobile phone market: the first mobile MMO, Samurai Romanesque, was released in 2001 in Japan. At present the most famous MMORPG application is Order & Chaos Online developed by Gameloft for iOS and Android devices.
